Notes: I like thinking about what the Alincule represents. Somehow, it felt weird that this was Erenville's fate. Not wrong, not exactly, simply... well, he had lost the one person closest to him, hadn't he? His fate to lose her, his mother, his mentor, to be always just one missed connection away from her. A missed train, in this instance, though he had not known at the time. And, if he had known, would he have changed it? Would he have caught that train, or would he have remained as he was? If he had caught that train, would he have been able to live out the rest of his mother's life with her? He didn't know how old she was, after all, nobody did, Cahciua was a shetona who always kept that secret close to her chest. Or would he have then had to suffer watching her die? Worse, would he have been forced to wear a regulator and forgotten about her entirely? That last one was a fate worse than any other, he felt.

And, in a way, he kind of had, his mother often leaving him here for Gulool Ja Ja or his attendants to look after while the parents all went on adventures. In a way, Alin envied him, though he was glad that he hadn't been left behind as often as his boyfriend had been.

That had been an interesting tale, though he had needed to glean it from Shay, Grace's lover and his unexpected half sister (another gift from his late mother), being that the majority of the group scarcely knew how such things worked.

Give that rabbit with family issues a child, break the cycle etc. Also Thancred gets a child too (just not a genetic one... yet. We'll see what 8.0 brings) It had been a long birth. Long and tiring, for both parents, though Alin was significantly and understandably more tired. All Erenville had contributed, as he had so aptly put it, was to hold his boyfriend's hand and guide him through the birth as best he could. Which, considering his many bells of study as a gleaner, was quite a lot. And now, while Alin slept, Erenville had been allowed (by Alin before passing out) to take baby Lily and take care of her while her other parent was sleeping. And, as Erenville gazed down at his newborn kit, he couldn't help the tears that sprung to his eyes. Tears of joy, though, not the tears that he had so oft shed of late. He missed his mother, especially now, when he was bringing a whole new life into the world. Cahciua should have been there to help out Alin, as was traditional in their shetonan village, but she wasn't. And she never would be.

According to Wuk Lamat (and backed up by Erenville, who had been at one), back when Gulool Ja Ja had been in his prime, Tuliyolal had, on occassion, been overrun by beasts. And not in the way of an attack as the Unbound had been planning- no, it was entirely voluntary, and nobody had ever been injured as a result. At least, no innocent townspeople had been injured, large parts of the city being blocked off so as to prevent injury or any damage that could not easily be repaired or that would otherwise have a terrible impact on the economy or infrastructure. This, according to Wuk Lamat, had been called the Festival of the Hunt, a favourite of Zoraal Ja, the late First Promise and genetic son of the late Gulool Ja Ja. Despite everything that the fiend had put them through, Wuk Lamat had declared that this festival would be held in her brother's honour. Surprisingly, and not a bit distressingly, there were more than a few townspeople happy at this. Then again, Alin supposed, maybe they didn't know that he had been behind the attack. Or they just hadn't believed. Of course, Jaik agreed with the Vow of Resolve, even though even Sam, Jaik's partner, believed it to be foolish at best and dangerous at worst.

It looked a lot like all of the houses here, built mostly of stone but with a few wooden furnishings. On the front porch were a wooden bench, a box presumably for dirty boots, and a little table complete with two chairs, all made of fancy iron. And strangely unpainted.

Alin gulped, brushing his fringe back from his face in a way that he hoped was nonchalant. But he could feel the distinct burning in his cheeks and knew that it wasn't good. Of all the bloody times and places for his heat to hit. Still, at least he had his boyfriend with him. Well, not currently with him, for Erenville was elsewhere on the ship, no doubt trying to ascertain how far they were from port or their second ship that Erenville had mentioned would take them over the dangerous reefs and to Tural proper.
