Making soy milk, batch 2.
Still just making it simply, as soybeans & water.
Thank you @skinnylatte.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy for having me investigate this.

Made chili oil with Chile Nuevo Mexico & Chile Negro. The color is gorgeously dark. But the spice level is … not much.
Time to make batch 2 with something spicier.

Anyone have a #recipe for spiced almonds that they love?

A white plate with a delicious pile of fried shrimps, chicken chunks, with carrot peeking out at the back left and mixed green onion and chopped peanuts on top of dark sauce.
Tonight's dinner: Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp. Tasty, peanutty, easy. The hardest part is the frying, honestly. I have extra of the curry sauce and the peanut sauce. The peanut is going on noodles tomorrow, and we might eat the curry sauce as soup, with more rice.

I'm looking for delicious spring recipes to add to our family's April dinner menu.
What do you love eating this time of year?

As described in the post. Guacamole with orange chili oil at the edge, in a pale blue ceramic bowl either blue abstract decorations. There is a stainless steel spoon stuck in the guacamole.
Homemade guacamole with homemade chili oil (la yu). The chili oil was made with chipotle peppers, so this is more on the Mexican side of fusion cooking.

a photograph of today's lunch: okonomiyaki and matcha tea for two.
excited about this, first time making #okonomiyaki
"okonomi" means "as you like", used a Japanese recipe, omitted the mtn yam, added pork belly & shrimp. homemade okonomi sauce, used kewpie mayo. topped with pickled ginger, bonito flakes, and scallion. So good!

A selection of squarish chunks of cake, although the cake part is not visible because it's been rolled in chocolate and then coconut flakes.

So I made #lamingtons for the #f1 #AustralianGP.
I'd have posted that earlier but then the Australian driver whose grandma supplies the team with her much superior version crashed on the way to the grid.
I'm sure the coloured coconut is an outrage, but...

Dammit, forgot to tag.
#AmCooking I guess. Do you have other tags to suggest?
Made (pseudo) hummus with Peruvian beans instead of chickpeas. Technically, this is not hummus because hummus = chickpeas in Arabic.
Yeah, whatever.
It’s mashed & blended frijoles peruanos with tahini, garlic & oil.
Had not considered but there is a LOT of it.

I'm looking at an Australian recipe card from the grocery store that lists "All-American Spice Blend" as an ingredient and I am both fascinated and terrified.
What is an "All-American Spice Blend"?

I made Chicken Caldereta and I think I put too much tomato paste. 😅😂
Still tastes good, though.

Cooking for the week.
Marinating a steak in Pakistani spices, for tomorrow.
About to cook
1. salmon & red trout, which look very similar. In Indian-ish spices.
2. Broccoli with cumin seeds & mustard seeds, my new go-to method for roast veges.
3. Korean-inspired soft tofu soup.

I have outdone myself.
STEP 1: 2 cups Peruvian white beans in the pressure cooker with 4 mirlitons (chayotes) and 3 frozen chicken drumsticks. 20 minutes HIGH, natural release.
STEP 2: Use tongs to remove mirlitons, chicken to cool. Sauté about half a huge onion, two big ribs […]
A screen shot of the ingredient list for the recipe that reads: - 1 head of garluc (about 18 cloves) - 2-3 large bell peppers - 4-30 chili peppers (4 is spicy, twenty will kill people, choose something else if you want less heat)
Our family chili recipe includes some very intetesting instructions...

We're feeding some college-age kids who moved into the apartments recently and who don't have all their kitchen gear yet. One is from Canada. The other is from the midwest USA.
They've asked for macaroni and cheese to be part of dinner.
... suggestions on what to serve with it?

Made chana dal last night with a recipe for black eyed peas. But an Indian recipe for black eyed peas. Why? Because I don’t have black eyed peas. I “don’t like” them.
Makes me wonder if I didn’t like the bean or the prep method. Probably the latter.

Dark red/brown sambal in a plastic container. Some seeds are visible.
My 3rd sambal.
Another mixed Mexican/Peranakan one, with Chipotle and Morita Chile as the main spice.
I guess I could call this Ñoña cooking.

Roasted cabbage with Indian spices & gram flour, after a recipe for making Brussels sprouts the same way.
Came out great, and had it for breakfast.
More work than a bowl of cereal, but so much more satisfying.

The sambal in the mortar. With a spatula on the right. It’s a brick red, with a few visible pieces of chili and some chili seeds. The sambal is not cooked yet.
Making sambal in a mortar & pestle. Feeling very hardcore for doing everything by hand.
Decided to replace the East Asian dried chilis with Mexican: 1/2 Chile Morita & 1/2 Chile New Mexico. Because I don’t want to have it as 辣 (la, hot) as an authentic version would be.

A shawarma wrap with a line of falafel and a line of salad (tomatoes and cucumber and onion and mint) on a bed of hummus.
A fat wrapped up shawarma on a plate.
A pyramid of falafel. Possibly slightly overcooked.
Anyway. More importantly, I get to stop cooking for #F1 and start thinking about the festive season.
But as a last hurrah, I give you a shawarma, made with falafel (I like falafel) and mint infused salad.
