This virtuosic sculpture, bigger than life-size (243 cm/ 96 in high) in marble, by Bernini, depicts Apollo, left, pursuing Daphne. He's just about caught her, but she cries out to her father for help--so she's turned into a tree, a process just beginning to happen: see the leaves sprouting from her upraised fingers, and the bark forming about her lower body. Poor Apollo: foiled again!
Surely this is one of the most beautiful things one can do with #Stone : this marble sculpture, "Apollo & Daphne" (1622-25), by Gian Lorenzo #Bernini. It is a star attraction at the Galleria Borghese, Rome.
