After twelve hours of travelling, I’m home from Arnhem. Many, many thanks to voicesofwar.co.uk for giving me the opportunity to see the 80th anniversary commemorations. It was a privilege to attend the service yesterday, and to walk the ground the Airborne forces fought so hard for. #Arnhem80

Back from an extraordinary day at Ginkel Heath, the photos don't really do the experience justice. Airborne troops of many nations were congregated on the heath and dropping from the sky, a privilege to be here with @VoicesofWar1944 #Arnhem80

CAPTAIN LIONEL QUERIPEL VC “He was one of the finest men I was privileged to serve under. His first thought was for his men. One hears of VC’s being given for impulsive bravery, but not Queripel.  Anyone who knew him would have expected him to do just what he did.” #Arnhem80 Killed #OnThisDay

Today I walked as part of the voicesofwar.co.uk team to the 156 Btn monument carrying a traditional Melton Mowbray pork pie, to remember their sacrifice and to show that the town will never forget the men who did not return. #Arnhem80

156 Btn were based in Melton Mowbray before Arnhem, landing in the second lift on Sept 18th. The next day they went in to action in the woods to the north of Oosterbeek, by the end they ceased to exist as a fighting force with less than 100 men making it out. #Arnhem80

Something a bit different for me this week, I’m all packed and ready for a trip to Arnhem for the 80th anniversary of Operation MARKET GARDEN. A large number of the British Airborne forces were camped around Melton Mowbray, close to where I grew up, and left from bases nearby. #Arnhem80
