Las danesas también tuvieron que luchar contra el patriarcado para lograr derechos sociales. La escena que mejor representa esa pugna entre clases de la Dinamarca posterior a la 1a Guerra Mundial es cuando la madre del industrial le prohíbe a él casarse con la obrera Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne) embarazada por el patético burgués. La chica vive en la pobreza sin saber que dentro de poco llegará a casa su marido, mutilado en la batalla, pero lo echa porque ya lo creía muerto. Las condiciones precarias se ven en los baños cuando Karoline intenta realizarse un aborto, aunque es detenida por Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm). Aquí es cuando el filme toma una vertiente para narrar el caso de la asesina serial Dagmar Obervye, quien prometía a mujeres pobres que sus descendencias irían en adopción a parejas ricas, pero en realidad las engañaba para darles un destino fatal 💀. Tras vivir un tiempo con Dagmar y su hija Erena, Karoline se da cuenta del terrorífico asunto, lo que dinamita su víncuo de amistad. Dagmar va presa, Erena es enviada a un orfanato y Karoline termina buscando a su marido deforme, quien la acepta a pesar de tanto desprecio. El juicio a Dagmar dice mucho sobre la doble moral de la sociedad, pues la sociópata justifica sus perversos actos con una crítica: "Deberían dame una medalla porque soluciono lo que para ustedes es un problema". El personaje de Dagma va de la luz a la sombra porque es capaz de ejercer la sororidad y también de asumir la peor parte de la condición humana. El final nos regala un hermoso abrazo entre Erena, adoptada por Karoline: una niña en busca hogar y una mujer en busca de una hija. Con 2 horas de una maravillosa fotografía a blanco y negro, esta película del 2024 fue dirigida por el danés Magnus von Horn.
