The #ArticlesOfConfederation sent to the #ThirteenColonies for ratification. The first constitutional of the early United States, they intentionally established a weak federal government while asserting the “sovereignty, freedom, and independence” of each state.
In 1777 on #ThisDayInHistory, the #ArticlesOfConfederation were complete and sent to ratification. These created the first permanent gov. of the #UnitedStates, and its first president, Samuel Huntington. A much looser, more parliamentary union, the Articles were quickly replaced.
On this day in 1777, the Articles of Confederation were adopted in York, Pennsylvania.

(1/2) #OTD 1787, William Paterson presented the New Jersey Plan to the #ConstitutionalConvention. It was a re-do of the #ArticlesofConfederation, with equal representation by state. It let Congress levy taxes and regulate commerce, and added new executive and judicial branches.
