I went with a circular fisheye pointed up on one camera last night because I suspected the clouds moving in would produce a 22° halo and sure enough!

Here's highlights of my #timelapse for Dec 26-27, 2025 from Crestone, Colorado USA.

We had some nice cloud iridescence around the moon last night. There was also a little lightning in the valley!

I’ve just seen this today, about a quarter of an hour before sunset. If I’m not mistaken that’s known as an upper tangent arc.

Saw a pretty good Sun Dog today. Hard to photograph as the sun was very bright and still pretty high above the horizon. Very distinct false suns to both the left and right.

S'teeth, never was there an #atoptics photo where the photographer, at the time, recognised so little of what they saw. Faint 22 degree halo, plus... a circumscribed halo, a complete parhelic arc, and what was probably a complete Wegener arc too. @pennyend.bsky.social might like this.

Night-time photo from a Scottish city, showing colorful light pillars each ending with a bifuraction that gives impression of a vaulted structure. These bifurcations are most likely upper tanget arcs, a type of ice halo.

Very interesting ice halo display from Scotland. What we see here are light pillars from city lights capped with what appears to be upper tangent arcs, with possible coincident suncave Parry arc. #icehalo #atoptics

The photo doesn't show a rainbow. It's an example of atmospheric optics phenomena known as ice halos. They are not caused by sunlight refracting in water droplets like rainbows but in ice crystals and there's veritable menagerie of them. Let's have a 🧵 about them. 1/17

Beam me up, Scotty! Incredible display of light pillars last night in Watertown, South Dakota.

The -20°F wind chill and strong winds were brutal but it was great to get back in the elements after a long month of not picking up my camera.

Takováto slabá irizace je dost častá. Hezká a výrazná už je mnohem méně obvyklá, ale taky není nijak extrémně vzácná.
