A male Babaylan is called Bayok. In the early 11th Century, the Srivijaya Kingdom (Indonesia) fell to the invasion of the Tamil kings (South India). The Chola Dynasty conquered Sumatra. One of the Chola princes was Sri Lumay who established the Rajahnate of Cebu (Philippines). His descendants became chieftains and spiritual leaders of Bohol (a nearby island province). One of them was Tamblot, a prominent Babaylan of Bohol who led the uprising in 1621-1622 against the European colonizers. Tamblot was assassinated in his sleep. Today, he is represented in the Provincial Flag of Bohol, together with another Chola descendant, Datu Sikatuna. The Provincial Flag of Bohol proudly keeps the legacy of the Cholas, a fitting tribute to the glorious dynasty from South India. - I am a Boholano, by the way.
