Sow vegetables in straight lines. It makes them easier to see when growing and a garden hoe should easily fit between the rows. Alternatively, scatter seeds like Jackson and make your life harder with maintenance (and hope you have generous friends).

Know your garden soil type. Squeeze a damp handful. If it forms a sausage shape, it’s mostly clay. If it crumbles apart, it’s mostly sandy. If it’s somewhere in between, it’s loam. All have their pros and cons, just pick the plants that like your soil type. Clay holds nutrients, but gets cold and heavy when wet. Sandy drains quickly, but loses nutrients. Loam often suits most plants, as it has the benefits of both.
Don’t be like Jackson though and focus on the sausage.

I attempted to winter stratify plant seeds in containers for things like clarksia and hellebore. The clarksia has sprouted beautifully but the hellebore and others not a spot of green. Is there still hope they will sprout? I'm in PA grow zone 5a. #beginnergardening #gardening #gardensky
