The seas around the Outer Hebrides are littered with moulting Great Northern Divers at the moment, as they replace their flight feathers. A ferry trip across the Sound of Harris often provides opportunities to get up close to these impressive birds. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
Nice views of a Taiga Bean Goose at Balemore this morning; that is until someone drove down the track. Mind, got some decent flight views too! #BirdingScotland #BirdsSeen2026 #BirdingOuterHebrides
A fine adult Bonaparte's Gull at Ardivachar, S Uist this morning certainly brightened up a wet, windy and dull day in the Outer Hebrides. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides #BirdsSeenToday
3 Ring-necked Ducks (ad female and 2 x 1st winters) on Coot Loch, Benbecula today. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides #RareBirdAlert

Always a delight - this couple of Waxwings were at Langass Lodge, N Uist this afternoon. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
It's been an excellent autumn for Baird's Sandpipers in the UK and especially the Outer Hebs. This bird is the 2nd one for Loch Paible, North Uist this year. Also lots of Barnacle Geese resting on the sands with a Cackling Goose amongst them. #BIrdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
The only problem with Grey Phalaropes is I find it difficult to stop taking photos of them! These two confiding beauties were in Stinky Bay, Benbecula today. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
It's been rough weather wise for the last week but today produced some great birding in the Outer Hebs. Numerous Sabine's Gulls, Grey Phals, Leach's Petrel, Black Terns, Buff-breasted Sandpiper and of course masses of Curlew Sandpipers still. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
Great end to the trip today with 2 juv Sabine's Gull & 5 Grey Phalarope, also juv Black Tern, 3 Little Stint & c.55 Curlew Sandpipers!
Back to the Hebs, though, in 2 weeks with the #Barraboys for a month.

A minimum of 81 Curlew Sandpipers in Uist and Benbecula today. Also a fine juvenile Black Tern in Benbecula with another seen in Lewis. #birdingscotland #birdingouterhebrides
After 19 Curlew Sands at Loch Paible last night, we returned this morning to find 9 CS, Baird's Sand, 2 Little Stint, 6 ruff, then a calling bird alerted me to an incoming Spotted Redshank!
I punched the air at that one as I just love em!

Most years we see a few Curlew Sandpipers in the Outer Hebs but 33 in North Bay / Mol Mor, South Uist this morning was a record count for me here. Also a Little Stint that got the heart pumping for a while! #birdingscotland #birdingouterhebrides
Strong southerly winds today, so it was no surprise when news came through of a Glossy Ibis nearby, a lifer for Trish!
Elsewhere, we had a total of 8 Curlew Sandpipers, along with two ruff, & 2 blackwit.

Trish spotted yesterday's N Uist American Golden Plover on the South Uist Ranges this evening, a relocation of around 27 miles, which was pretty cool!
Also 2 Curlew Sand Ardivichar.

After the washout the other day at Loch Paible a return was on the cards, and so glad we did when we picked out this Baird's Sandpiper!

As part of our tour, Corncrake and Phalaropes we have a couple of hours on the Lady Anne - which never fails to wow. After a delayed start due to wet weather we had a brilliant trip with stunning views of some classic Outer Hebridean birds. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides
Lesser Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Whimbrel
Iceland Gull
Loch Sandary, N Uist produced a nice surprise today in the form of a Lesser Yellowlegs. Good scope views but not really close enough for the camera. Also a juvenile Iceland Gull and plenty of Whimbrel in the area. #birdingscotland #birdingouterhebrides
