Significant Whooper Swan northwards movement over Inchgarth with flocks of 30 and 12 over late morning, most I’ve ever seen over here. 2 Greylags looking quite settled on the new scrape, and 3 Sand Martins were my first of the year here #birdingscotland

There’s been a dearth of white winged gulls in NE Aberdeenshire this winter so the 2 Glaucous Gulls that have turned up in Fraserburgh Harbour have been very welcome. This ringed individual is a bit of a beast as you can see next to a great black back. #BirdingScotland #Gulls #Birds

Here’s a Waxwing in the rain for #BirdOfTheDay. Eating doesn’t stop for the #weather!

A very pleasant walk in the on-and-off sunshine yesterday, Emperor Moth Lure didn't work sadly but a Golden Eagle and a singing Ring Ouzel is not bad...
Also a few chunky Drinker moth caterpillars on the move...

Having spent the last eight months out at sea, Puffins - known here as Tammie Norries - will soon be returning to our Shetland shores. Over the next couple of weeks they'll be re-establishing pair bonds and inspecting nesting burrows.

Magical birds!

Hi, looking for help in identifying this Diver spotted today at Maidens. Thinking Black Throated but lacks white patch at rear flank and has mottled flank and white indentation on collar associated with Great Northern. Any help appreciated.

Record number of breeding pairs of cranes in Scotland A survey by the RSPB has revealed 10 pairs across Scotland bred in 2025.

10 pairs of Common Crane bred in Scotland in 2025, successfully raising nine chicks. Here's hoping they have a successful 2026.

I've only been lucky to see these delightfully elegant birds once in Scotland. #BirdingScotland www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Why on earth did that fish jump in to its bill like that?! 😉 Great timing Alan.
For #BirdOfTheDay this Grey Heron clearly enjoyed its #snacks but managed this one eventually!

Went to @argatyredkites.bsky.social last Friday. Great place with really friendly and knowledgable staff. Amazing opportunity to see 30 or more majestic Red Kites circling, swooping and diving at close quarters.

It can't be the end of March already surely?! It must be - Rob has set #BestOfTheMonth for #BirdOfTheDay and has led the way with his excellent set of images. Nothing exotic from me - just a House Sparrow from our garden.
