Red-bearded Bee-eater
Pretty chunky for a bee-eater, but lovely and colourful.
Shame about the stick!

Asian Rosy Finch
Breeds on barren ground in the far north and winters further south. In Japan they come from NE Siberia and Far East Russia. Uncommon, but eruptive species on Hokkaido, with some years having more birds.

Bluesky – the real alternative to Twitter?
Here’s something I’ve written for #theBOUblog on how Bluesky is fast becoming a new home for many communities that once thrived on Twitter. It’s working for #birdjng and I’m sure it can work for #ornithology...
First year female Northern Bullfinch, Pierowall, Westray, Orkney, 5 November 2023 - I saw the first for the isle on 30 October with two more birds seen on 5th and 6th November
First year Stock Dove, Westray, Orkney, 31 October 2023
First year Pallid Swift, Noup Head lighthouse, Westray, Orkney, 5 November 2023
So, during the week 30 Oct - 4 Nov I’ve added another three species to the Westray list during what was a pretty quiet spell!
Northern Bullfinch, 30 Oct (photo 5 Nov)
Stock Dove, 31 Oct
Pallid Swift, 4 Nov
