Red-winged blackbird chasing a red-tailed hawk so closely that it could tug on the hawk's tail feathers. Red-tailed hawk is a light morph, with classic red-tailed markings: dark leading edge of wing, dark comma under wing and mottled belly band. NOTE: Light morph red-taileds DO NOT HAVE A RED TAIL. They do have a dark head and trailing edge of the wing.
A red-tailed hawk being chased away from the nesting area by a very angry red-winged blackbird.
One of the very hardest things for me to learn about red-taileds is that a light morph R-T hawk DOES NOT ALWAYS HAVE A RED TAIL.
Stupid birds.

A nice little <4 mile walk to see water fowl and hopes of seeing a bald eagle. The bald eagle flew over too quickly to get a good pic of them, but still great views and a sunny clear day. #birds #birdsofcolorado #baldeagles

After moving from the east coast to Colorado, I am very happy to see Hooded Mergansers in most all our rivers and streams around the Denver suburbs.

My first post here. Hi! 2025 has brought the first #AmericanKestrel to our yard. I thought he was snacking on a sparrow, but the lack of feathers made it more likely a mouse. #birds #birdsofcolorado
This was from last week's snowstorm in Colorado. The eagles were so active that day; it was one of my best days photographing them.

A Northern Flicker is perched on the bare branch of a dead juniper tree. It is facing away from the camera in front of vertical canyon walls, showing the speckled back feathers and characteristic red cheek patch.
