A great blue heron - a large dark blue bird with long yellow legs, long brown neck and a long yellow beak - glides over the surface of flat blue water as it slows before landing. Its big yellow feet hang down at an angle behind it just an inch above the water.

The way great blue herons land in water is so graceful. This one did a nice glide before stopping

A harlequin duck preens itself on wet rocks on the shore of the ocean. Its face is pointed down as it nibbles on the festhers of its left shoulder.
