I am, but then I always go out on Christmas Day, so 'preparing' for the festivities really doesn't take that long. In one respect the past week has flown, mainly because I have a lot of pressing work deadlines and not much time to complete them before I break up for annual leave. In another, it has been the longest week in history as I continue to wait for some very important news.

It could be argued that it's semi-biographical to a degree, in that it is based on an initiative the author put in place when he was in charge of policing in the city, so beat that if you can.

He is a very unique character, a man who strays as far from what people may expect as he can manage. Who has little by way of natural charm, and yet is undeniably a guy who just draws you in.

This one, though, is pure adrenalin, a flat out thriller of the finest order, and from a series I have loved since the very first book. It's one of those 'abandon all other plans' kind of series as I know the moment I pick the book up, I'm not going to want to do a fat lot of anything else.

The #Bookvent Calendar 2024: Day One #Bookvent - Celebrating my top reads of 2024 It's baaaaaack! Yes. It is December 1st and that means the start of my #bookvent countdown. For the uninitiated, #Bookvent is my version of an advent calendar, but rather then getting fat stuffing my face with far too much chocolate, I spend the month counting down my top reads from the year. I've read all of the books I am going to review in 2024, so I am safe calling it, but in order to whittle down my selection from the 160+ books I've read, I do set some rules which I try to stand by.
