This is the first time I’ve watched a Studio Ghibli film and been completely lost. I understood the overarching theme of grief but had to read an analysis to understand the entire plot. This is one of the weirdest but most interesting movies I’ve watched.

Finally watched The Boy & the Heron last night. Was not prepared for so much darkness given our current state…but Mahito’s choice at the end, however bleak or even fatalistic it may seem, does give hope for love, community, & perseverance 😢
