I am on a train, on my way to do some in person work. This must be what it feels like when you come to the end of Maternity leave and start doing back to work days #CarerLife
We have spent three days emptying and dismantling two cupboards and emptying a third so we could move that one and give access to the surveyor on Tuesday. No sign of a cupboard. It’s either at the other end which they both swore it wasn’t or it is a room of requirement #CarerLife 2/2

No visit today, instead preparing bungalow, emptying car of wheelchairs to make room for frame and shopping (just Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda and Lidl) to top up all of the things which have gone out of date in the last month #carerLife
At one point when trying to look after my late mother, I had 21 different phone numbers to deal with, primarily across various bits of NHS with a sprinkling of social services. All of them expected me to know their precise responsibilities by telepathy and none talked to each other
#CarerLife
I am particularly interested in getting them eating better. They have a very restricted diet due to swallowing difficulties and preferences. Hit me with your extra healthy soup recipes, and other recommendations please 2/2 #carerLife
With Mum & Dad (hopefully) coming out of hospital soon, both with zimmer frames I am preparing myself for a period of slightly more hands on caring. Luckily we live close and are moving slightly closer in a few weeks. What do you know now that you wish you had known in the beginning? 1/2 #carerLife
Today’s #carerLife drama - Dad blacked out when being assessed by the physio and so there was a full on Casualty moment with alarms & everything. He’s fine now

Second hospital of the day for Dad #carerLife
Sitting in traffic on the way to see Mum #carerLife ❤️
#carerLife bingo “I wouldn’t have thought that you would have been into Queen” - Mum’s ring tone is We Will Rock You. She was 28 in 1977 when it was released. I told her to ask if they thought she would be into Vera Lynn HT RIP John Popham
Mum’s hospital is trying really hard with her food, she has graduated from the Sara Stedy today. Dad still wants to be at home but seems to be more focused on Mum. Apparently we are able to go in on Saturday. #carerLife
This is really difficult. Mum is in one hospital, Dad in another. Dad “doesn’t know why he is there” Mum is struggling with the food due to a pre-existing condition. None of this would be too much of an issue except we are at home in the early throes of Covid. #carerLife
Apologies, I will not be running *Dorset Geeky Coffee in Edinburgh but if anyone else would like to pick it up please do. cc @maredwards.bsky.social #carerLife ❤️
Phone call, Mum has fallen, now waiting for an ambulance #carerLife
Dad broke his hip in February 2024 and has had a number of falls since then. Generally because he is trying to stretch a bit too far etc #carerLife
Our forecast was for rain until Friday but yesterday it didn’t turn up so we had an exciting trip to the tip #carerLife
Off to move Dad’s car and supervise the pickup of the skip #carerLife
I've been on the go since 6.30 and if I don't get a cup of tea soon it will be all up with me.

Oblivion
beckons.
Resist.

Serving the breakfast tray in bed each morning, I sometimes feel as though I should be wearing a frilly white apron and followed by a charismatic fox terrier.

Having a good stretch with mum. Mobility better, memory good, chatty, relaxed. Not too tired, eating well. I hope this continues, though stroke recovery is not linear. Will enjoy this good spell while it lasts. #carerlife #strokerecovery
Oof. Pushing a wheelchair down the steep slopes in Sheffield, over slippery pavements covered in snow and ice is ... quite scary. I got to test the brakes quite a lot.
