Yr 5 had a great introductory workshop learning about their local chalk streams, the Lambourn and the Kennet and the wonderful wildlife that lives in them.

I was able to get out today for some #vgi collection on the Natural England #chalkstream dataset using the CrowdWater app.
I recommend using it when you're walking near watercourses.
Also used #qfield to record in #qgis.
Great to be on the #southdowns - although the streams were a bit murky

Likewise, good growth of that other #chalkstream stalwart, Fool's Watercress (Helosciadium nodiflorum) in Hoffer's Brook. The silt made it a slog swimming up, until the top end where the water speeded up revealing the clean gravels & chalk substrate. If only it was all like that! #rivers 15/24

Our citizen science volunteers have been out checking our fixed point Springs and Sources survey sites on the Upper Kennet. This data, collected every month contributes to long-term data and is shared with the Environment Agency #citizenscience #volunteer #chalkstream #riverkennet
Currently Marlborough Sewage Treatment Works has been discharging untreated 💩 continuously for 273 hours straight into the Kennet.
Additionally the infamous sewer lid at Stonebridge Wild River Reserve has 'popped' and the contents of the sewer pipe has poured out.
