Late on my final post for @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026, theme: #CharismaticEndemics. One of the coolest + rarest birds I've seen is the Hawaiian Hawk or 'Io. Saw my lifer at HI's Volcanoes NP in '17. Here's an 'Io soaring in the thermals created by lava rivers at Kilauea. #birding 🦅🌋🪶

It's the last day of #BirdArtWeek2026! Today is #CharismaticEndemics. The Ipswich Sparrow has a fairly broad range, so it isn't technically endemic to one spot, but it breeds ONLY on tiny, beautiful Sable Island, Nova Scotia (better known for its sand dunes and feral horses!).

The final bird for #BirdArtWeek2026! For #CharismaticEndemics, I chose the lesser prairie chicken, a grouse found only in the Southern High Plains of the United States. It is unfortunately a vulnerable species due to habitat loss.

Central America. It's also one of my favorite species and is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful. 😍
