Day 7 of #BirdArtWeek2026 🪶 I’m super late, but I finally finished! The last theme is #charismaticendemics . I chose the San Diego Cactus Wren, an endemic subspecies that is seriously threatened due to habitat fragmentation 🌵

Day 6 of #BirdArtWeek2026 by @cornellbirds 🪶 This theme as #PhotoNotAvailable by @scottpartridgeart . I am so intrigued by the mystery and lore surrounding this bird, but it is saddening that this beautiful species most likely extinct.

A stylized illustration of a Hawaiian Hawk (known locally as an 'Io) soaring over an erupting volcanic fountain with lava flowing outward.
Late on my final post for @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026, theme: #CharismaticEndemics. One of the coolest + rarest birds I've seen is the Hawaiian Hawk or 'Io. Saw my lifer at HI's Volcanoes NP in '17. Here's an 'Io soaring in the thermals created by lava rivers at Kilauea. #birding 🦅🌋🪶
Day 5 of #BirdArtWeek2026 🦅 Super late, but this was for theme #RuleBreakers 😅 I chose the secretary bird, one of my favorite birds. They have long legs that they use to stomp their prey to death. They also look like they’re wearing yoga pants 🪶

A small rectangle of brown paper with an oil pastel drawing is held up near a vining plant. It depicts a fluffy brown and white sparrow with yellow around its eye, surrounded by reddish grass with sand dunes in the background.
It's the last day of #BirdArtWeek2026! Today is #CharismaticEndemics. The Ipswich Sparrow has a fairly broad range, so it isn't technically endemic to one spot, but it breeds ONLY on tiny, beautiful Sable Island, Nova Scotia (better known for its sand dunes and feral horses!).
#art #SableIsland
The final bird for #BirdArtWeek2026! For #CharismaticEndemics, I chose the lesser prairie chicken, a grouse found only in the Southern High Plains of the United States. It is unfortunately a vulnerable species due to habitat loss.

A screenshot of an eBird photo of a majestic adult Bald Eagle flying over a grafitti-marked landscape with bold letters spelling F U C K I C E.
For yesterday's @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026 theme of #PhotoNotAvailable I wanted to recreate my favorite #BaldEagle image I saw last year (not my photo).
Unfortunately for some reason, it isn't available on eBird anymore. Oh well, I hope I got all the little details right. 🪶🦅🖕🧊
Last day for #birdartweek2026. I’ve got a cheeky California scrub jay that periodically comes around, in hopes that he’ll be offered peanuts. It felt appropriate to make him my charismatic endemic.
A mod design illustration of a field bird perched on a grassland stem in the grasslands at dusk.
Day 7 of #BirdArtWeek2026 with @cornellbirds.bsky.social.
For today's prompt #charismaticendemics: grassland birds, as they flit, swoop, and sing loudly while perched on grassy stems.

A shining green bird with a bright red chest and long trailing tail feathers sits proudly on the end of a broken branch.
We end #BirdArtWeek2026 with #CharismaticEndemics. The Resplendent Quetzal can be found only in Southern Mexico and
Central America. It's also one of my favorite species and is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful. 😍

Painting of a black and red bullfinch perched on a twig.
#BirdArtWeek2026 - #PhotoNotAvailable
St. Kitts Bullfinch, possibly extinct. There are some possible sightings, but nobody has ever been able to take a proper photo of it.

Marker art of a prehistoric bird, Titanis Walleri. It has mostly brown feathers flecked with white, red eyes, and a massive, hooked orange and grey beak tripping with meat and blood. The bg is a lighter brown. A pale hand holds up the drawing near a vining plant.
#BirdArtWeek2026 continues with #PhotoNotAvailable! Titanis Walleri, a giant "terror bird" that was alive during the Pliocene and Pleistocene. It was the only bird of its kind (that we know of) to travel north into what is now Turtle Island (North America).

Day 4 of #BirdArtWeek2026 🪶 Today’s theme was #spectacularseabirds 🌊 I chose to draw the brown pelican, a staple here in San Diego.

A parrot--sporting a grey head, red bill, golden belly, and dark brown wings--sits on a branch.
Almost at the end of #BirdArtWeek2026! For #PhotoNotAvailable, I chose to draw the Mascarene Parrot.
This bird was endemic to the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean and was declared extinct in the 19th century due to hunting and deforestation. 😢

A stylized image of an adult Crested Caracara perched on a saguaro cactus in a desert landscape near sundown.
The theme for @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026 today is #RuleBreakers - I like the way Crested Caracara fits into that theme for NA raptors. They sort of look like an eagle, scavenge like a vulture, chase prey like a hawk, but are technically a falcon. #CrestedCaracara 🦅🪶🌵😎 #birding
A vulture hunches over a pile of bones. A long, thin bone, perhaps a femur, dangles out of the vulture's mouth. Everything looks dark except for the vulture's striking eye, which stares directly at us.
For #BirdArtWeek2026 - #RuleBreakers I chose the bearded vulture because it eats bones. Other animals eat bones, like hyenas, but the bearded vulture lives almost exclusively on bones...like 90% of their diet is just bones!!...and that feels illegal.

Western Bluebirds face constant challenges due to declining habitats and invasive species that overtake their nests, which is why consider it a success when a bluebird is able to drive away birds that attempt to massacre their nestlings.

Day 3 of #BirdArtWeek2026 🦅 Today’s theme is #birdsuccess. I picked the California condor, an amazing success story of a species brought back from the brink of extinction 🪶
This guy was quite tricky to paint. Hopefully I did him justice 😅

A stylized illustration of an adult Parasitic Jaeger, flying low over the sea at sunrise, with some distant gulls flying in the opposite direction.
A Parasitic Jaeger for the #SpectacularSeabirds theme of @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026. A bit out of my wheelhouse but I think jaegers and skuas can be honorary raptors of the sea, don't you agree? #birding #parasiticjaeger 🪶🦅

Painterly marker art on very dark blue paper: a Black Guillemot -- a black seabird with a white patch on its wing, with strikingly red feet and inside mouth. It's sitting on a patch of ice surrounded by ice floes. The sky is turquoise, dotted with stars.
#BirdArtWeek2026 day 4, #SpectacularSeabirds! I HAD to choose the Black Guillemot, because I've loved them ever since learning about them just last year (and even tried to go find one based on an eBird sighting, no luck, but ONE DAY). The bright red! Why!! They're amazing.

My New Year's Resolution for 2026 was to draw one bird a day. So far I've kept it up almost every day - and I think I've gotten a lot better in just a month!
Cue my excitement, then, when I learned this week is @cornellbirds.bsky.social's #BirdArtWeek2026! Day 4 is #SpectatularSeabirds.
My attempt at sculpting a Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Guacamaya Azul y Amarilla). This beauty is one of my favorite birds of the Neotropics and can be found from eastern Panama through Colombia and from Venezuela east to Brazil and south to Bolivia.

A stylized illustration of an adult Peregrine Falcon in a steep stoop, diving towards a European Starling in a cloud-filled sky.
One more for @cornellbirds.bsky.social #BirdArtWeek2026 For the theme of #BirdSuccess here’s one of my favorite conservation victories: Peregrine Falcon. It’s hard to imagine that not long ago, we had pushed this species to the brink of extinction in the Eastern US. 🦅🪶 #peregrinefalcon #birding
