It was a simple document recording agreement to a set of โjust and equal laws.โ The document also described a form of self governance that was an early version of the idea of consent of the governed. These details were hammered out after The Mayflower crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was anchored within sight of what is now the town of Provincetown at the northern tip of the peninsula that separates Cape Cod from the Atlantic Ocean.
