I took this photo in the summer of 2025 while visiting South Dakota. I needed to use my telephoto lens to get this kind of zoom from the parking lot of the memorial. The photo shows a massive hand that dwarfs heavy construction equipment and people It is all backed by a bright blue sky. This project has been ongoing for decades. Korczak and Ruth Ziolkowski and the Lakota people have been planning, sculpting, and fundraising for this memorial since the 1940s. The Ziolkowski family is still carrying out the work of their grandparents.
