A beautiful morning to go moth-trapping in the Botanic Gardens with the cherries in full bloom. Great to see some new students joining us too. 10 people, and lots of moths: Clouded drab, Hebrew characters, Common quakers, Lichen tortrix and even a Pine beauty #cubotanicgarden #moths #teammoths
Early morning visit to the Botanic Gardens by the moth trapping group produced one moth in the trap (a March moth) and a visit to two wonderful plants that are pollinated by moths (in the wild) - the Moonflower and Darwin's Orchid. Why not visit them yourselves? #cubotanicgarden
Just finishing off some exciting new, wild flower pieces, for the Festival of Plants at Cambridge University Botanic Garden, this coming Saturday. A fabulous celebration of the wonderful world of plants! 🌿🌸🍁🌼☘️🌺🌿

Nice to have some company when sketching in the Botanical Garden. This was from 2017. A beautiful cat too well fed to be interested in the ducks.

The picture shows two pages of a gardening magazine. The main photo in the magazine was taken in the winter garden of Cambridge University Botanic Garden. It shows a curved path running through grass edges with shrubs on either side in wide beds. There’s a light frost and winter flowers can be seen on several shrubs. The garden is very neat and tidy and surprisingly colourful.
Last winter I spent some great days at the lovely winter garden at Cambridge Uni Botanic Gardens, looking at winter flowering shrubs. The result is this article I wrote for Which?Gardening mag in the current Dec/Jan issue (subscription only) Winter gardens look and smell fantastic #cubotanicgarden
A close-up of a yellow Nonea lutea flower and another shwing the palm trees next to which it grows in Cambridge Botanic Garden.
Here it is yesterday well within #CUBotanicGarden but not labelled. No sign outside the garden.
A moss covered rock.
A wider view of same rock showing red shoots of Pæonia emodi in the foreground.
A rock under moss attack in #CUBotanicGarden today. The wider view shows red shoots of Pæonia fighting back. #MossMonday
Three photos of Yellow Monkswort, Nonea lutea.
Thought I recognised that. It was spreading around #CUBotanicGarden in April last year, nowhere near a label. Photos from the 'other place'.
Two photos of fresh green buds, the left hand ones slightly larger than the right. They are Downy Hawthorn and Common Hawthorn.
"Cheese!" - the new buds on hawthorns. Downy Hawthorn (Crataegus mollis) just ahead of Common Hawthorn (C. monogyna) which seems to be the pattern year on year.
#CUBotanicGarden today. Should have taken my camera instead of relying on my phone.
