Moulded ceramic panel made in two sections, decorated in relief. It is of the Saxon King Alfred, painted in colours and glazed. Harold Rathbone had been a pupil of Ford Maddox Brown in 1882, when FMB was working on a set of twelve murals for Manchester Town Hall.

Museum description. Della Robbia Manzoni vase red earthenware, slip coated with sgraffito and hand painted decoration, large albarello shape with scroll handles terminating in a grotesque mask, with highly stylised flower decoration rising from the foot against a mainly green ground.
