The dark tree is thin at the center and the top but bulbous at the bottom, terminating in thick, tented, cypress like roots that disappear off the bottom of the canvas into what appears to be a field of brackish green water, covered in pale yellow reflections. This tree looms across the center of the canvas from top to bottom, its thin & barren branches extending off the top of the canvas into the vermillion sky. Behind it, stretching into the distance, more barren and violet-shadowed trunks, stumps, foliage and low lying plants catching the eerie light from behind.
