A two-image photo collage of a shelf fungus growing on a log. The top image shows the upper surface of the fungus, which is pale white to light cream with a slightly uneven, matte texture and rounded lobes. The bottom image shows the underside, revealing a dense, maze-like pattern of small pores in shades of brown and tan, with sunlight and blurred tree branches in the background.
Went for the traditional First Day Hike today, and found the inaugural First Mushroom of 2026: Daedaleopsis confragosa, or the "thin-maze flat polypore."
It's REALLY old, but absolutely still worth noticing & appreciating.
