A double knit scarf in light and dark blue. The design is a tumbling-blocks-style cube pattern with cubes whose three visible sides are dark blue, light blue, and a checkerboard mix of dark and light. The scarf is folded in half and slightly splayed to show the front and back of the knitting. This highlights the fact that the cube pattern on the back, which is the mirror-reversed, color-swapped version of the pattern on the front, is also exactly the same as the pattern on the front. This symmetry is one of the things I like about Laura Ponce de León’s pattern. In the top face of the center cube at the bottom of the scarf, there is an AJ monogram with dark letters on a light background.

Superficially, they seem to follow the color-reversing rule of conventional double knitting color work, but neither AJ has mirror reversed letters. This part was tricky to knit, since I had to simultaneously follow the separate front and back charts for the monogram region on both “right side” and “wrong side” rows.

A #gift for a colleague. I widened the Cubic Scarf chart to fit the monogram. The design has color-swapping mirror symmetry, so the front and back patterns are the same. I had to “cheat” to make the AJ work on both sides.
