Last big walk of 2025. Circular from Dovestones Reservoir via Alphin Pike, with a bit of scrambling thrown in for good measure. A great way to see out a shitty year.

The Sun has set and the autumn colours are fading. The cloudy sky yields to pale orange colours kissing the skyline Oldham lights in the misty distance. In the middle is Dovestones reservoir nestling in the valley shot from high on the edge above.

In particular a flat topped near impossible balanced boulder takes up a proportion of the foreground but still sits before the skyline of the hills and #KinderIntake surrounding the #valley.

Late afternoon #walk by #Saddleworth #Yorkshire #Moors from #DoveStones up to #Chew #reservoir along the edge of Dove Stone Moss (500m). Descending the #Crags and #moorland thinly covering the rocks in near darkness, but not giving up night vision illuminated by the fading light.

My partner, Tarrant, who broke her leg in spectacular fashion last September, managed to walk over 1.5 miles without a break last weekend at #Dovestones. The Pennine Way might be of the table for 2025 but perhaps '26 could be the year we throw obnoxious sums of money at high end camping gear again?

Here’s one of our local ones. It’s called #Dovestones Reservoir and is huge. It’s in the Peak District's Dark peak, in an area known as #Saddleworth. It’s classed as a national park. Can take an hour to walk round it easily. Beautiful in the summer (when we get one 🤣) and people go sailing on it.
