It's April 15th - you know what that means!

We're only a couple of weeks away from those end-of-the-month-deadlines. Make sure you're checking your calendars and getting those submissions in!

Oh, and I guess you could double check that your taxes are in too

I keep telling myself it's fine that I have two chapbook drafts open at the same time, it's so that when the words on one page start to blur together into an unintelligible blob, I can just swap over to the other to keep the momentum going lol

Just hit 20 poetry submissions! I'm already a fifth of the way through the start of my journey to 100 NOs - can't wait to see where this takes me. #emergingpoet

I crossed a big hurdle today - I sent out my first chapbook for consideration!

On an unrelated note, if anyone has any tips for how to function without breathing properly for about six months or so, that would be much appreciated

Looking at my calendar with all of the March 31st/April 1st submission deadlines really has me physically rolling up my sleeves - let's do this!

I'm Worthless To Gilead

Too young to be a Martha.
Too outspoken to be an Aunt.
Didn't marry rich enough to be a Wife.
Can't be a handmaiden -- what with the missing ovaries. And uterus.

Guess it's off to the Colonies for me.

Then again, Canada is only 300 miles away...

A poem placed on a background that shows a sun rising, titled "Start Anew" by Winona Anderson. The poem reads: Morning comes again as dawn is breaking.
Gasp and brace against the pain, I settle;
praise the cramping, stinging me like nettle -
sweet relief that courses through me, quaking.
For this is reprieve, despite the aching.
Joyous blood that does bring back my mettle.
Thankful for these days that taste of metal,
smile and greet my soul that now is waking.

Mind and body no longer accosted.
Senses that were dulled, feel how they heighten;
listen as the storm does pass - no thunder.
Muscles start relaxing. I'm exhausted.
Sloughing off the past few weeks, I lighten,
lift away the weight I was kept under.

I recently decided to challenge myself to have 100 poetry submission rejections come through my inbox. Gotta get used to hearing "no" somehow, right? And, who knows - maybe I'll see the word "yes" once or twice.

~Waterfalls~

Water
embodies peace
and rage as it churns, roars
over cliffsides and rocks, toward
calm pools.

~Menses~

I move.
It's slow, but sure -
once I can feel my feet.
The numbness starts to fade away,
behind.

~Luteal~

Crying, drowning, dread.
I'm here again, it's back.
I'm drowning again,
here it's back. Dread, crying.

~Ovulation~

I sense the shifting,
the transformational time.
It slams into me.

~Follicular~
Reborn.
The circle turns,
I start to see the light.
I'll make the most of it this time.
This time.
