I find that #physostegiavirginiana (non)obedient plant can really penetrate tough vegetation & even outcompete some turf grasses. Large leaf aster #eurybiamacrophylla seems to be similar in the shade. I also saw #Pileapumila Canadian clearweed outcompete garlic mustard. All native to Midwest US
