Heather Cox Richardson knocks it outta the park with today's essay on the events leading up to Boston (and America's) Evacuation Day.
Note the similarities between tyrants, the narrowness of Boston Harbor and Hormuz Strait, and the strength and resilience of resisters.

What events are we holding for our most precious #EvacuationDay?
Happy Evacuation Day to all who celebrate the decisive coalescing of the resistance to a tyrant and the formation of American identity, democracy and independence.
(Boston Harbor is VERY shallow and narrow, making ships under fire a real threat - similarities to the Hormuz Strait)

Happy #EvacuationDay #MuseumShopMonday! Tomorrow marks the 250th anniversary of the end of the Siege of Boston, as the Regulars departed after threats from Henry Knox’s show of force via cannon. Our Mortar Pencil Sharpener makes an apt memento: bit.ly/4lDbkAM #AmRev
"No battle ensued, no blood was shed, but the mere sight of those cannons caused the startled British to flee Boston and give General George Washington his first major victory of the Revolutionary War," writes Brian MacQuarrie.

March 17, 1776: The Redcoats were forced to evacuate Boston after the Patriots built significant fortifications with cannons on Dorchester Heights, overlooking the city. Realizing their fate, over 11,000 British troops and Loyalists sailed to Nova Scotia. #EvacuationDay
This Revolutionary War era map was based on British intelligence from the observations of Lieutenant Page and the plans of Captain Montressor. It was published in 1778 by the London publisher, William Faden. This, the second issue of the map, extends to the east to encompass Nahant Point, Nantasket Head, Broad Sound, and many islands including the Brewsters and Light House. It also delineates fortifications and troop positions with emphasis on “rebel lines” (American) thrown up in 1775 around Roxbury and Cambridge.
