Favourite track of the day #24: "Games Without Frontiers" by Peter Gabriel, from his 4th solo album aka "Melt". A young Kate Bush sings "Jeux sans frontiers" but this line has universally been misinterpreted; I always heard "She's so funky, yeah" #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #23: "17 Days" by Prince, or "17 Days (The Rain Will Come Down, Then U Will Have 2 Choose. If U Believe, Look 2 The Dawn And U Shall Never Lose.)" by Prince And The Revolution. The 1st record I bought, a 7" single of "When Doves Cry", & I preferred the B-side #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #22: "Blown" by LFO, from the album "Sheath". One of the lesser known but massively influential British electronic acts of the 90s, signed to Warp Records. Appeared on the Warp-produced soundtrack to "Hardwar", a classic early PC game #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #21: "Aloysius" by The Cocteau Twins, from "Treasure". It's hard to choose a favourite Cocteau Twins track, such an influential band. Elizabeth Fraser has not only an incredible voice but a unique style #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #20: "Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)" by David Bowie. I was never one of the cool kids who got into early Bowie (because their parents had all his records) so my first exposure to his music was his early 80's output. Love the energy on this #favetracks
Fun fact, this was the most played song on UK radio in 1982. I know this for a fact because I was in bed with measles for a week and this song became my theme tune. #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #19: "Parasight" by Balil. While still part of The Black Dog, Ed Handley freelanced solo as Balil. This track always struck me as perfect cantina music for a Star Wars film - futuristic but warm. Also I swear that's a Bladerunner sample in there #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #18: "Saint Angel" by Goldie. 1995 was the year I fell in love with drum 'n bass, and Goldie's "Timeless" was the only D&B album to break into the mainstream. It was also the album I was listening to while walking to the hospital in Jan '96 to meet my daughter #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #17: "Resolution (Photek Remix)" by Photek from the 1998 album "Form and Function". Another D&B classic, the tightness of the production on this is just sublime #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #16: "That Amen Trk!!" by Lemon D & Capone (Dillinja). For a few years in the 90s, I only listened to drum and bass. For me, nothing could beat the energy and impact of this new genre. And there's nothing more expressive of this than the ultimate Amen track #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #15: "Cascade" by The Future Sound of London, from the album "Lifeforms". Hard to choose a single track to showcase FSOL's work, while they did produce some banging singles, their genius lay in their sprawling, organic albums #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #14: "Ralome" by Plaid, from "Rest Proof Clockwork". A calm, deliberate build-up reveals a joyous melody that weaves in and out of view using Plaid's delicate bell-like sounds. A beautiful melancholy that encapsulates the meaning of "This too shall pass" #favetracks
Hey, I'll bite. Why not post some #favetracks, I'm hoping to start a trend?
Favourite track of the day #13: "All I Want" by Joni Mitchell, from "Blue". To me, Joni is first a poet and 2nd a songwriter, her lyrics have a natural rythmn that her music wraps around.
"All I really, really want our love to do
Is to bring out the best in me and in you too"
#favetracks
Favourite track of the day #12: "Subwoofer Lullaby" by C418, from "Minecraft Alpha". Often, creative people produce their finest work when constrained. With a limited sound engine and no prior experience of ambient, C418 produced a game soundtrack that defines the Minecraft experience #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #11: "Roygbiv" by Boards of Canada, from "Music Has The Right To Children". 2.5 mins of sonic rainbow. BoC are genre-busting masters of cryptic, anti-capitalist marketing who would rather wrap up their career on a high than churn out content #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #10: "Afro Connections..." by De La Soul. I had to choose one track but the album is the story. Educating myself about the Kendrick Lamar beef made me realise I haven't appreciated hip-hop since the 90's, the gangsters and money taking over never did it for me #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #9: "Chesh" by The Black Dog, from 1995's "Spanners". Before Ed and Andy formed Plaid, they were members of The Black Dog. Spanners was a treasure trove of alien bleeps and pulses only matched in inventiveness by fellow Brits The Future Sound Of London #favetracks
Would love to share recommendations, if you have the time. You might like some of my #favetracks, I also have a YT playlist I'm working on here (still weeding out some dance-y tracks). I lived through the 90's UK electronic scene so would appreciate any new stuff you have!
Favourite track of the day #8: "Romantics" by Four Tet, from "Sixteen Oceans". Four Tet has been on the periphery of my attention since "There Is Love In You" in 2010, but "New Energy" and "Sixteen Oceans" really blew me away. His pandemic DJ sets have now established him as a legend #favetracks
Nice voice :) not really my cup of tea though #favetracks
Favourite track of the day #4: "Oxbow Lakes" by The Orb. The Orb were pioneers in the UK electronic music scene in the early 90s with tracks like "Little Fluffy Clouds" but by the time of this album "Orbus Terrarum" had matured into masters of their art #favetracks
I still love this album.. #KarinaPasian #underrated #FaveTracks '16 @ war' & 'Can't Find the Words' open.spotify.com/album/3Y19sgbZgAkvkZK9gy...
