Took a trip down our trails doing routine maintenance and saw a number of animals today. Lizards, chipmunks, skinks, box turtle, and squirrels to name a few.
This is an Eastern Fence Lizard that was sunning on our garden bed.

A photograph of the right side (almost like a profile shot) of a Western Fence Lizard, or Blue Belly, clinging upright on the inside edge of a gray weathered doorjamb. It has mottled scales of gray, brown, green, and tan, with long toes, and a long tail. A streak of almost iridescent blue on the side underbelly starts from beneath the front right leg and extends almost to the back leg.

A cropped and zoomed-in photograph to easier see the blue scales of a Western Fence Lizard, or Blue Belly, clinging upright on the inside edge of a gray weathered doorjamb. Also, he was definitely watching me as I took his photo.

This Western Fence Lizard has been hanging around in my tack room/storage shed. You can just see a streak of blue on his underside extending down from the front leg, which is why they are also called "Blue Belly" lizards. #photography #lizards #reptiles #nature #blue #bluebelly #fencelizard

Happy to report that our latest native plant container passed its first inspection. #herps #fencelizard #lizard

A western fence lizard rests in the shade with one leg in the sun on a mossy brick wall. The red clay bricks are well-worn and little dots of moss cover the clay and mortar. Clearly visible are the blue scales of the lizard's back.

The lizard's body is oriented towards the lower right of the frame while its head points to the lower middle. Its legs rest in a large mortar gap.

The lizard is oriented to the lower right of the frame. It seems to be slightly more interested in the photographer this time. Its legs rest in a large mortar gap while the tip of its tail touches another gap.

A western fence lizard basks in the sun on red clay tiles. Dropped seed pods of nearby plants and small rocks rest in the gaps between the tiles. The lizard watches the photographer closely.

The lizard is facing to the left of the frame and only seems mildly interested in the photographer.

The lizard is seen from straight on with both its eyes visible. Its legs rest in a large mortar gap.

I liked these fence lizards against the red clay.

Check out the #scales of this #fencelizard aka #bluebelly #lizard. I discovered they are called overlapping keeled scales.

It’s that time of year where the bluebellies start ramping up their breeding colors…. Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) giving the best possible side eye. #herps #bluebelly #fencelizard #lizards #fieldwork #herpetology
