I'm still not sure about Part 1 of my Gothic Dark Fantasy novel 😫

I think the scene I added has helped to dripfeed the worldbuilding more? I should maybe go harder with the sporror. Idk.

I think I need to work on this section a bit more. Then more necro magic.

I'm on the final draft of YELEN & YELENA so that's now eating up my attention :/ #WeeknightWriters
That's more like #FinishUrBookFall not #FirstDraftFall

I started off last week 13,000 words behind on my weekly word count goal. That meant in addition to the 8200 I had to write for the week, I also needed to write 13k. As of today, I'm back on track!!! Phew! 💪🏻

I'm not doing #FinishUrBookFall or anything but after drafting a novel in 2 months this summer I decided to see if I could do it again this fall. So far it looks like I can.

Not long ago I thought I might never write a book again. This is the 3rd one I've written in 2024. So. This feels good.

I didn't realize there was a #FinishUrBookFall but I am here for it. Oh, do I need this in my life right now. O_O

Over on Threads I'm participating in #FinishUrBookFall! Today is introducing your main character day, and for me that's Dr. Ambrose Harrow (with special guest, the BG3 character creation system).

The final #FinishUrBookFall part 2 = check-in. A Remedy of Love is first-drafted, clocking in at 85,362 words. Thing is, I wrote it during lockdown! This exercise has coaxed it out for a much-needed airing, and my aim is to second-draft it by the end of 2024. 🤞🏻 #writerslife

The final #FinishUrBookFall part 1 = my creative process. Best part: the research, losing myself in a bygone era, wandering around countless stately homes as scenes from the novel unfold in my mind. Worst part: with a full-time job and a family, finding the time to write!

‘What say you to a race?’

‘I say that is a fine idea. We shall be warmed up in no time. How many laps do you propose?’

The playful nature of this response raised Pip’s spirits and woke in him an answering liveliness. ‘Six?’

Fair brows rose. ‘If you are certain. That is quite a distance.’

‘Oh, I am quite certain.’

Pip struggled to contain his glee as they took parallel starting positions. He knew what Lucky would be thinking, for it was far from the first time he had been underestimated as a competitor. But while Lucky undoubtedly had the greater strength, Pip had agility and speed. And never yet had he lost a race. They counted down in unison, pushed off against the silty bottom, and the world narrowed to a blur of frothing waters and glinting sun. When Pip glided to touch shore for the final time, he was mere seconds ahead - but ahead he was. Exhilarated, he hauled himself out of the water and collapsed face first onto the grassy bank.

#FinishUrBookFall this week = side character! My favourite in A Remedy of Love is the Dowager Viscountess Forsythe - Stoker to her friends - a vastly eccentric aunt of Lucian’s who resides in Berkeley Square. Her pet mynah bird, Mason, delights in hurling insults at visitors. 😂

I totally fell off the wagon of following the #FinishUrBookFall prompts…but I *am* going to finish the draft, and I think that’s probably more important!

#FinishUrBookFall = book love! Rather than reccing a recent read, I’m going to rec my favourite novel and chief inspiration: Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. It’s witty, arch, romantic, clever, timeless. An original choice? Hardly. But it’s the reason I write so 🤷‍♀️.

This week’s #FinishUrBookFall: goals! So. My dreams for this book? 1) That I finish it by next spring. 2) That it ends up being a book that I’m proud to call mine. 3) That it finds its audience, wherever and however that may be. 4) That it makes people happy.

This week’s #FinishUrBookFall is about setting! A Remedy for Love takes place in the spring to autumn of 1811. As with all of my books, it is set primarily in Derbyshire, England (well, they do say write what you know!), with forays to London’s Mayfair and Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Forest Fire by Brighton! Perfectly encapsulates the dynamic between my two POV characters.

#FinishUrBookFall: which song encapsulates my project? Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn fits pretty well. A Remedy of Love is about two people who fall headlong into love even as they realise that it’s impossible because of a bitter divide between their families. 💔

#FinishUrBookFall this week = the fantasy book launch! My dream location? Chatsworth House! Outfit? Regency, inspired by Judy Parfitt’s superb Lady Catherine de Bourgh (1980, BBC). Food: afternoon tea in the sculpture gallery, with floral displays and tiny bird cages. Such fun!

NaNoWriMo or #FinishUrBookFall I'm trying everything to progress with this damn book!

The inspiration for Imbued/Untwined was first a very self-indulgent fantasy + I wanted to try writing romance. Then I was all like 🤩 magic systems ✨! Then uh, it somehow turned into writing therapy for my cPTSD 🫡

Claribel A. Ortega - author on TikTok I love the idea of a gentler, slower #nanowrimo so I started #finishurbookfall for all the anxious, slow writers out there who want to avoid burnout and find community 🧡🍂 #writingabook

#FinishUrBookFall is the gentler, kinder nanowrimo ✍🏼📖
