A little grey cat with white knee socks is curled into a ball on an antique upholstered rocking chair. The cat's head is turned away from the camera as it carefully grooms itself, specifically its ass. Its right back leg is draped over its right shoulder, the white sock against the dark grey fur dramatically centered in the image.
It's a twofer today - caturday and Finnish Independence Day. This image mostly references the former, though I guess it could be interpretated as a metaphor for the current gov's political strategy.

Today is Finnish independence day. I have spent the day in very traditional way: Watching approximately 1700 people shake hands with our president.
As odd as it sounds, I enjoy it.

Two of the four gigantic Lyhdynkantajat (lantern bearers), enormous statues that flank each side of the entrance to the central train station in Helsinki, Finland. I was invited to document a side conference at the 2018 UArctic Congress. The statues hold a glowing bulb and were sculpted by Emil Wikström in the Art Nouveau style.
