They’re not French, but they were mine when we lived in CA. Here are Laverne (a Black Marans), Shirley (Ameraucana) and Thelma (Rhode Island Red). We also had Louise, but she couldn’t pass an egg and died.

An autumnal landscape image. I’m failing on two counts 1st is autumn not winter 2nd they aren’t French hens. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a French hen let alone photographed one….. I hope these will be acceptable. The whole image is filled with autumn colour. The background is trees of god there are clipped hedges of green and yellow and the ground is grass covered with fallen leaves. Central we have a handsome and proud cockerel standing tall and looking over his trio of ladies. We only clearly see one of the hens as the others are behind her with just tails showing. All are busy pecking the ground.

A couple of years ago Haslemere Hens were made and painted to be auctioned for charity. There are some around now outside shops and restaurants. As this is outside an Italian restaurant I suspect this might be an Italian Rugby Strip but never mind they are definitely hens.

A small flock of six hens clusters along the inside of a wire fence, their bright red combs and wattles glowing against a soft green backdrop. Warm browns, creamy whites, and a single dark hen create a lively band of color as they huddle together among the foliage, looking busy and companionable rather than “French,” very much like a group of cheerful German backyard ladies. The hens in the photo are compared to “German backyard ladies” because they look like the kind of small garden flock many people in Germany keep at home: practical mixed‑breed hens, more robust and down‑to‑earth than elegant show birds. These backyard hens are valued for fresh eggs, compost and pest control, and because they live in small groups close to the house, people often treat them almost like neighbours, each with her own personality and nickname.
What can you do if you don’t have a picture of French hens? You take half a dozen lively German ones and hope to get away with it. Good morning everyone, you know I love a clever workaround, don’t you?

Bird count: 2 greylags, 2 kestrel, a buzzard, 2 #frenchhens, about 10 #longtailedchickens, loads of mippits and grouse. Best spot was 2 red kite. Hope the don’t hang around for long or.... 😕
