A pothole full of snow melt and rainwater reflects the sky in a rocky flat on top of Grand Mesa. The sky is blue with fluffy clouds. The pothole is bordered by a tree and a few granite boulders. You can see clumps of evergreens in the distance, and a densely wooded area at the horizon.
The Grand Mesa has a very flat mountaintop which used to be a valley. Volcanic flows covered the valley, and as erosion occurred, the Mesa too gradually grew above what is now the valley of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers. This is called a topographic inversion, when what was once the lowest point in an area becomes the highest.

A pot hole on top of Grand Mesa, near Grand Junction, bordering the Grand River (the Colorado River) in Mesa County, Colorado. To be honest, there are lots of mesas in Mesa County.
