Something for the weekend: Grant McLennan “Horsebreaker Star” That’s it from us for another week dear reader. I was chatting to one of our writers earlier this week about my love for Grant McLennan, one half of course of the seminal Australian band The Go Betweens. Back in 1994, near the start of his solo career McLennan took a left turn and released a double album of country songs which was by far and away at the time my album of the year and was what I've always thought was one of things which inadvertently lead me to Americana.

#GrantMcLennan started as a filmmaker, not a musician – McLennan originally wanted to be a filmmaker and studied under avant-garde director Albie Thoms at the University of Queensland. He only picked up a guitar after meeting Robert Forster, who convinced him to start a band.
