Some 10 days back I walked back from Sayalonga to Cómpeta: not ideal because of the heat: shade to shade (there wasn't much) and lots of water. Nice views of the Torrox valley and Cómpeta. And the Cicadas are back and have started up their summer static song!

Missed getting a shot of the Short-toed eagle this afternoon, but pleased with this chance encounter with an early Grasshopper instar.

Great visit to El Tocororro, Cuban rte in Nerja a few weeks back. I like vertical gardens - always live the green - but inside... not sure. It can hardly help biodiversity inside - and the water and lighting cost. Tell me if I'm wrong.
Cool place though. 😎

Trees and views in the middle of Málaga. Gotta love a green city.
Me encantan los árboles grandes.q se ve en el centro de Málaga capital.

As the low mist drifts through the vineyards, Sayalonga is channelling the Twilight Zone...

The trees in Vélez-Málaga, pollarded to my regret (why do they keep cutting back trees to a 10th of their potencial?) are, nevertheless, very pretty right now.

La Viñuela reservoir April 2022 after the first year of drought, and today. What a difference! The water is right up into the scrub and there were fish swimming between the shrubs and splashing when they got caught aong floating branches!

Dramatic shots of La Maroma in an article in Sur in English that popped up yesterday but must have been taken last week. The mountain had a beer sprinkle of snow left. The heat always wins here!

We have had really good rains in Málaga in autumn and early spring. As much as it causes problems - like these collapsed terrace walls - after over 3 years of several drought, it's positive. All the farmers I know are delighted and relieved.

Lost in translation. The warnings are sound but the mistranslation males them sound a little hysterical.

Beautiful rainy day. Need.more of these.

My colleague, tougher than me, bathed after a long walk in the shallow pools of the Río Turvilla at the Fábrica de la Luz. She's as fit as a fiddle and as tough as old boots and even she only lasted 20 seconds submerged. But yes, she bathed. Brrrr

Snow glimpse on La Chapa on the east of Sierra Tejeda and magnificent on La Maroma on the west. It won't last long but it looks soooo pretty.

Camino, Sierra Tejeda. A walk in the hills above the other Canillas, Canillas de Aceituno. Accompanied by birds, bees, butterflies and - of course- other grasshoppers.

Río Turvilla, Fábrica de la Luz, Canillas de Albaida.
Every stream gets is a 'rio' here. Most are streams, rushing from the autumn rains and shrinking to a trickle in summer.
This spot is a start for walks, a picnic site, and, good for wildlife too.

This open water tank at the top of Canillas de Albaida is a great resource for wildlife - I see waterboatmen, tadpoles then frogs, dragonflies and all kinds of birds - a gey wagtail before I took this shot.

The vineyard, recently stripped, is gull of gossamer threads from spiders that would have been hidden in the weeds. They shiny in the morning sun then become invisible!

After harvest olives (&most fruit trees) are cut to manage their shape and make harvesting easier. I gdislike pollarding but I get the practical need here. And for a few months many farmers burn off the cut branches; the whole valley has plumes of smoke rising from them.

Looking over Cómpeta. They never stop building; a photographer I know said you know the shot of the pretty white village has been edited when there's no crane in it! Not quite true, but I see what he means.

Cerro Gaviarra this evening. At the risk of sounding like an oldie, I remember when this was all covered by trees and full of life. The main fire that riped that away was in 2014 - and it's still pretty desolate 10+ years on. Love the hill but morning the forest. #cerrogaviarra #grasshopperwilding
One of the The Kings; they rode through the village at sunset last night 🌙 throwing sweets out to all and sundry before giving a gift to every Canillero/a aged 12 or younger. Itbit early for them, but the missed the rain that came later.

Lenticular clouds this evening - normally this.means we'll get very windy weather in the next 24 hours. Beautiful sky.

Yesterdayorning. A favourite view, showing Cerro Verde (left) and Atalaya (right). That's Green Peak and Watchtower in translation. Which is ironic because on the next summit, out of sight, there's an actual Watchtower, the fire watch, manner 24/7 in fire season.

Brief visit to Surrey including walks in the wonderful Home Park and Bushy Park as well as a nice walks along the Thames and around Kingston Market. Very different from what I am used to. Especially enjoyed seeing deer and waterbirds like Tufted ducks. #grasshopperwilding ##wildingsurrey
#grasshopperwilding in 1973 ish, somewhere in the Lake District, I think. Hopping up mountains is a family tradition.
