I’ve just finished “Fifteen Rounds a Minute” , which is composed of letter extracts and diary entries from officers of 2nd Bn #GrenadierGuards in 1914. The CO from 9/14 was Lt Col Wilfrid R. A. Smith. He cared deeply for his men and mourned every loss. He wrote these words on 29Oct1914 near #Ypres.

I’m about halfway through this outstanding compilation of diary entries, mostly from regimental officers of the 2nd Battalion, #GrenadierGuards from #1914. It’s full of fascinating details that often get omitted from history works. Highly recommended! @thegreatwargroup.bsky.social
