On average, stimulants are more effective and work faster than non-stimulants for ADHD, but many patients benefit from non-stimulants and some may reasonably start with them. Head-to-head and network meta-analyses generally show larger symptom reductions with methylphenidate or amphetamines, while atomoxetine, guanfacine, clonidine and viloxazine produce moderate improvements, often with a slower onset. A recent Nature Mental Health perspective argues clinicians should give equal first-line consideration to both classes based on patient differences and broader impacts, although most guidelines still list stimulants as the typical first choice.

Day 4: #guanfacine has dual activity; high selectivity for the alpha-2 adrenoceptors which modulate impulse control & attention in pre-frontal cortex. Also a TAAR-1 agonist regulating reward & mood circuits

Day 3: #guanfacine has good absorption. Can be taken anytime but avoided with high fat meal as increased absorption/incr risk ADRs.Liver metabolism CYP3A4/5 + phase II conjugations/no active metabolites.Renal excretion.Severe renal or hepatic impairment require dose adjustment. T½ 18 hrs

Day 2: #guanfacine is used either in conjunction with, or as alternative to stimulants in ADHD therapy. Licensed for children 6-17. Oral m.r tablet only, start dose 1mg/day & thereafter increasing by 1mg per week to tolerance with a weight adjusted maximum dose

I'm getting withdrawal from 1mg #guanfacine (for ADHD), does anyone know how long it lasts or if anything will help? We switched me to #clonidine, but only 25mcg so far (twice daily from tomorrow), so I doubt it's kicking in yet. Blood pressure up, heart rate very reactive, headaches and low mood.

Since taking Guanfacine, my Heart Rate is substantially down, and my BP has dropped also.

In my last Active Stand Test before Guanfacine, my HR went from 90 to 146. Today it went from 55 to 100.

ANYWAY, anyone with #dysautonomia #POTS have experience with #guanfacine for temp regulation issues?
