The conk in 📸#3 made me think the conk might be a gym rat who had somehow developed abs, especially in person.

These tiny little emerging conks have Guttation that nearly rivals their own volume.

📸#2 had an interesting growth pattern that reminded me an non-balances yin-yang.
I wonder if the entire fungi had died back and new growth just refreshed most of it, or if only the exposed dead portion was impacted.

One of my favorite Red Belted Conk found so far this year.

A collection of shots of likely Red Belted Conk fungi found growing on the same fallen Douglas Fir tree trunk with so much #Guttation! #Nature #Fungi

I especially love the tiny newly emerged conks with droplets that nearly dwarf the fungi excreting them. #FungiFriends

A large likely Red Belted conk growing on a fallen Douglas fir. Another baby conk, also with guttation is visible to the right with the mass of white slime mold without any visible stems seen growing on the moss in between the 2 conks.

My eyes still overlook #SlimeMold more often than I would like.

But at least this time they were mostly in focus, even if I only noticed them when back home.

In this case, I guess I can't complain too much when I had such a beautiful #Guttation jeweled specimen distracting me. #FungiFriends #Fungi

I love when the whole conk has fresh new growth.

Especially when they're super chunky like this cartoon ape head covered in #Guttation!

Same fungi from an earlier post but with better focus on the guttation droplets.

A cluster of birds nest fungi growing among moss and plants of unknown species. Look at all that guttation on the plants, so many droplets especially on the source grases.

Where'd the rest of the hare go?!? A pair of fungi, as found, sprouting from the forest litter. Their curled cup like fungi shape is espresso creme color with a smooth surface.

An offering for the forest gods? Alas I had nothing to offer this time and beg their mercy.

Three birds nest fungi with their caps still intact growing atop a fallen stem of an unknown species of understory. The base that is comparable to the "nest" is cream colored and fuzzy with a cap of a beautiful golden brown with 2 out of 3 of the caps having lots of guttation. A second species was found nearby growing on a partially decomposed leaf that I believe was a big leaf maple. This specimen was found about 4 inches to the right of this image and was gently transported over to be more easily compared side by side. The "eggs" are fully exposed and a stark white that does stand out in contrast to the interior of the light brown "nest". The exterior of this one is a reddish brown and smooth.

The white furry cup ones on this stem had their "eggs" still "incubating" with a surprising amount of #Guttation. #FungiFriends

The other, moved from a few inches away, found growing on a decomposing leaf with their #Eggs fully exposed, yearning for the rain.

Same fungi as image 2 but with my phones macro lens. The lower bump isn’t in focus but the bulk of the larger fungi and guttation is.

Lots of #Guttation on these 2 #Fungi

The first is the fruiting body of a plant pathogen Chondrostereum purpureum, the cause of Silver Leaf disease.

The second is another plant pathogen, likely a Red Belted Polypore seen from 3 angles with fresh growth & apparently way too much water. #FungiFriends

I believe this is a large grouping of Snow-White Crust, Plicatura nivea.

Look at that #Guttation! Like little balls of sunshine.

Reminiscent of marshmallows. I'll have to handle one next video to demonstrate how pliable they are. #FungiFriends #Fungi #Nature

The 2 springtails are on the left side of the conk, near where a portion of the stump is visible. The black little speck on the underside that is vastly easier to pick out had a good amount of webbing attached to the underside of the conk, hopefully still visible after compression.

Hopefully the critters still show up well after compression.

Can you spot the 2 #Springtail buddies on top & the #Spider visible on the underside of this oddly shaped Red Belted Conk fungi? Also sporting a little #Guttation.

What a difference 5 days can make. Revisited the #Rosecomb mutation fungi again today after last seeing it Sunday, when this quoted picture was taken.

A freshly emerged fruiting body just above the main group has #guttation that's notable, especially relative to their size. #FungiFriends

A red belted conk covered in massive droplets of guttation. Working overtime to expel that excess liquid. Initial stages of development of conks look so off. I'll have to keep an eye on these to see if the brown ones expand or are actually aborts.

Oddball Red Belted Conk, Fomitopsis pinicola, absolutely covered in #Guttation! Found on the cut end of a fallen Douglas fir.

Likely Mycena subcana. Look at those little hairy attachment points! Look closely and the lower fungi had a guttation droplets hanging out on the left side of their stipe just below the cap. These beauties have white stems, gills and mostly white caps that darken to brown toward the top. Growing from a Douglas fir twig that snapped and is barely hanging on pointed toward the ground.

A closer composite shot of the likely Mycena subcana.

Who would have thought breathwork could be so important for taking pictures.

It was also a blustery night and even in the dense forest, the occasional light breeze would filter through, blurry chaos ensues.

A shelf mushroom, also called a conk. This one is brown mixed with black; the wide rim is off-white. The red "belt" is the border between the dark top and the whitish rim; in this one, it's narrow and barely reddish. The underside (not seen) is white. Along the bottom edge of the rim there's a row of clear droplets; they are secreted from the flesh of the mushroom; the process is called guttation.
The top of the log is covered with a variety of small mosses.

Good Monday morning. It's now 6:13 AM and 26° outside, with a still dark night sky.

Today, my daily post features four photographs from my files of mushrooms with #guttation droplets.

Look at that #Guttation on these little ones.

Found in very close proximity to each other, but the one on the left fully emerged, whereas the one on the right got stuck curled up underground. I only spotted it because it was visible hiding in what I believe was a squirrel hole. #FungiFriends

A super fluffy Amanita. I don't believe it's a Smith's Amanita, Amanita smithiana, as iNaturalist guessed but I could be wrong. I didn't do much more digging and I didn't have any additional information as I left this gorgeous fella alone undisturbed other than the passing glare of my LED lights. Found in a douglas fir dominant forest, madrone nearby, decent understory of evergreen huckleberries, salal berries, trailing blackberries and ferns in addition to ample mosses.
Composite Focus Stacked image derives from 8 pictures.

Definitely the fluffiest Amanita I've found so far this year!

Take a look at that fluff up close and see some always fun #Guttation droplets.

See the 2nd post for zoomed out view as well as some closeups of the gills and the beautiful cortina remnants.

A couple of uber-chunky #Red-BeltedConk fungi, Fomitopsis pinicola. They've apparently been bulking up taking advantage of all this rain. Found yesterday at Point Defiance Park in Washington State.

Bonus shot of Winston and me soaked from the rain and understory.

I saw this white polypore on a Douglas fir undergoing guttation: when the mushroom's metabolic byproducts ooze out because they often produce more water than they can hold. Think of it as a mushroom "sweating"... #fungi #mushrooms #guttation #NaturePhotography

Snow-White Crust growing on a fallen Alder branch. The stark white fruiting body had a fluffy marshmallowy sort of appearance. A smattering of guttation and some metabolites can be seen in the center of the fruiting body.

This is how I found the branch, I did not rotate it to take pictures. Look for a couple droplets of guttation and some unlucky moss that's being encapsulated in the stark white fruiting body.
