Faces reminiscent of Dreyer's style, reflections of a cruel feudal humanity subjected to Lutheran shackles, of a peasantry filled with darkness and violence. Bergman is not far off. Without a doubt, Haneke's best film.

I love Haneke. He has a special talent for depicting people's inner darkness. I highly recommend this one. It's not nearly as romantic as the misleading cover might have you suspect.
