I'd take my kids chestnut harvesting in autumn, but there's no sun to guide you in a chestnut wood, only wavering shade in hues of grey. We'd walk and pick, in circles, lost, until the dark amplified the sounds of the road and our way back. I loved those circular walks with my kids.

Ted had never been lost on a hike. On a walk. On a drive. He was lost in reverie once, but he came to and figured it out. He loved maps and was an excellent navigator on trips, though he often said to make a turn too early, which was infuriating. "Turn...NOW. No, wait!" "Too late, Ted."

When my wife of 37 years announced at Christmas dinner that she was divorcing me, I returned her gifts and brought a few thousand dollars of outdoor gear.
I was going hiking!
So here I am, 62, freezing, lost on the side of some mountain, a phone with low battery and some deep regrets. #hbp48

Hope I'm not too late.
“Where the hell is that mountain?” Jin yelled at himself. He knew he was screwed when he got lost on a hike. The only instructions given to him was to make it to the top of the mountain. Following him was a pink nine tailed fox kit in what he thought was mocking him with giggles. #hbp48

Jason had hiked up a mountain with only one trail up. When he reached the mountain's peak, however, he saw before him a wide array of paths or trails, all leading to his peak.
People jogged along the paths, brandishing hiking poles and conversations. They were coming. He had to go back down.

"We need leave the field."
"How do we get out of here?"
"There is meant to be a gap."
"Hon, there isn't."
"I know it should be just there."
"Hon, it's not."
"Look at the map, this field is this shape."
"Hon, look that's not this field."
"I know, and those cows are coming."

"The hazel has moved," one man agued with his companions. They stood between the bush and their camp, in a space which had been much wider that morning. "I'm telling you we aren't lost. The bushes and trees are moving when we aren't watching". One of the companions, the stupidest of the lot said, "Things like trees don't move." I knew that was the most stupid one, just needed to get close enough to hear, thought the hazel bush.

Hope this format is acceptable
Ah! I knew I shouldn't have
Hiked alone
No one knows
Will anyone miss me?
I have my phone
No signal
Feeling I'm in a horror scene
Sun going down
Cooling off
Why can't I remember
From which way was what?
I knew better
I usually do
Maybe nature
Will make me her own

And it all sounded like a jackpot
His loss
Him lost
Her win

It’s up to you, babe
Wherever we go,
I’ll be there with you
And she smiled and found the highest cliff
Where one could plummet
And snap their neck
And as the fresh widow trembled
And the red and blue
Hues consumed the night
She heard his scream
His thud
His shattering
His gurgle

She played with the diamond
Spun circles around her finger
Spun them around it too
I kept going
And he went left
To find a place to
Use the bathroom
I’ve lost him
And he’s lost me
And all that locked up money

We separated, we separated
She swayed
And hummed
As he married for love and youth
As if she hadn’t married for wealth and paycheck
Hysterics and spectacle
As she warmed herself
Beneath the blanket that
The brave and handsome
Responder threw over her shoulders

The detective
overworked
divorced long before
retraced the labeled footprints
double-checked his clipboard
Against a crooked tree
he paused and tried to imagine
the corpse
a woman lost in the woods
walking alone
No
This was the same murder
he tried to plan
years before
he found peace
alone

The trail dissolved, a phantom’s breath,
The pines stood still, like shades of death.
A raven’s cry, both dread and guide,
Led him where the shadows bide.
Through cursed woods, where time does rot,
He walked, yet knew the path was not.
