As the music was mostly recorded over one weekend last November, and my lyrics are quite reflective, an autumn release for the #synthbraska LP seems apt. Some hashtag hints, for now, include: #Sheep #BarbaraHepworth #AHouseForEssex #GreekThomson #HenryMoore #Bilbao #Spireites #Causeways #CR78 #LoFi
A pair of Lithographs by Henri Matisse and Henry Moore respectively, from the School Prints series. Lithos from this series were limited to six colours.
‘Bachanal 1’ - a 1962 second edition print of a 1959 linocut by Pablo Picasso. The print hangs in a black frame on a wall painted sage green.
‘The Sadness Of The King’, a litho by Henri Matisse, hanging on a white wall.
‘Mari Lwyd’ by Geraint Evans, oil on canvas from 2023, hanging unframed on a white painted wall next to a light switch.
Always some other amazing pieces to be found in there too - nice to check an original Matisse, Moore or Picasso on the walk home from school pickup! Bit of contemporary Mari Lwyd action from Geraint Evans too. #art #gallery #henrimatisse #henrymoore #pablopicasso #marilwyd
Entrance to the Art Deco exhibition at London Transport Museum. Reflective metal writing is set on blue background rectangles; one says ‘ART DECO’ and a longer one, set below, states ‘The golden age of poster design.’ Both texts are in sans serif type. The blue backgrounds are set on a wall of black, cream, white, brown and red irregular shapes and lines (some swirling, others more sharply curved or edged) with an almost neon purple semi-circular edge at the top-left of the image.
Went to this yesterday. Good to see a photo of #HenryMoore working on the Underground HQ included - he’s referenced in one of the #synthbraska LP songs :-) #ArtDeco #LondonTransportMuseum

Henry Moore studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London, yet he soon defied traditional academic methods. Moore abandoned the use of clay preparatory models and began to carve directly into the surface of stone and wood; he sought to enhance the inherent characteristics of his natural materials. Massive pre-Columbian and Neolithic stone carvings, as well as the experimental abstract forms of avant-garde artists such as Jean Arp, strongly influenced Moore. He focused on the feminine figure as an archetype of earthiness, fertility, and nurture. Composition is an early example of Moore's use of interlocking biomorphic forms: both the open cavities and the curvilinear, organic forms suggest anatomical features. Moore's gentle abstractions often recall the undulating hills of his native English countryside and thus further his equation of women with nature.

The British artist Henry Moore is most famous for his monumental bronze sculptures set in landscape settings. His sculptures – often of females – became increasingly abstracted through his long career but he always retained the essence of the core figure. “Three Standing Figures” from 1953 is not one of his monumental works, which are generally of a single figure, but it is an interesting exploration of geometric and biomorphic shapes on a single pedestal. In 1947, Moore created a similar group of three figures, with the same title, but in the earlier piece his figures are somewhat more conventional, in that they have obvious female forms covered in drapery; the 1947 sculpture, moreover, exudes a psychological tension from the placement of two figures closer together while the third figure is more set apart. By 1953, the artist focused more on the geometric composition of the three bodies, which are still inherently female. His interest in the skeletal armature of the human body informed the structure of his figures. As his career progressed, Moore’s forms became increasingly organic and flowing, incorporating more and more open space that often formed a “peephole” through which to glimpse a feature of the surrounding landscape. From the late 1940s, Moore employed bronze casting as a favored creative method over stone carving. He preferred how resilient the bronze pieces were when placed outdoors and felt that, overall, bronze offered more flexibility for his designs.

A study on Henry Moore design and making it into doodle art
Once upon a time, an artist ventured into unknown lands, a place where the souls of gods lived among the people.
Mesmerized by the gods and their powers, our sculptor began stealing fragments of their souls and sealing them inside his sculptures.

Moore's sculpture show his signature modern take on the female form - all angles and mass, no head or individual features but still, somehow, evocative of a woman reclining. The sculpture was stolen in 2005 from the Henry Moore Foundation, located in Moore’s former home in the Hertfordshire countryside, in the middle of the night. Few clues were found and the authorities were left scratching their heads as to “why” and “how”. In 2009, the British police issued a statement that they believed the piece had been chopped up and sold for scrap metal. The sculpture in 2005 was worth $18 Million; the scrap metal value was approximately $2,000. Those responsible for the theft have not been caught, and their method for removing such a weighty piece undetected remains a mystery.

She is perched on top of three steps. Her left arm is behind her supporting her weight and her right arm is by her side resting on the top step. The sculpture is in Cabot Square in Canary Wharf, London.

Photo of two bronze sculptures. Two circles aligned so we look straight through both. In the middle we can see a black umbrella shielding someone from the sun. The sky is clear deep blue and the ground is mown lawn and some trees.
A photo of a bronze sculpture on a pedestal. This one has a cavity bisected by a vertical length of metal. Some say it looks like a vagina!
Photo of a bronze sculpture. This shows an abstract woman breastfeeding a baby. Although I think the baby looks like a duck.
