Fewer pupils in less affluent English schools are taking languages, but no mention here that there are far more bilingual and multilingual pupils at these schools. Most would prefer learning their heritage language(s) than the usual pick of French, German or Spanish.

That is why my auntie Clementina has often led my lessons at Glasgow University. She spent her whole life speaking and thus teaching us all kids the wondrous beauty of the Neapolitan language.
