I’ve reached the point in the semester where I come home from work and just sing karaoke to myself. You know let it all out very loudly. Sometimes with a 🍷. 😂

Disarticulated skeleton.
Skull bones focused on cranium.
Vertebral column.
Histology of bone.
Trying something new in A&P1 lab by having stations for learning the bones. Less instructor centered and more heaving learning lifting for the students. #anatomyedu #ITeachAnatomy
Sparkly apple for first day of school.
When you realize that your first class slide deck is way too much given all the other things that need to be discussed. But how do you cover homeostasis without covering, you know, other basics first?! Never enough time for all the things.

Bank Atlantic Endowed Chair Award
Did a little thing today and won an Endowed Chair and grant.
The grant will support me in writing a new custom anatomy and physiology lab manual for our students.

I don't even know how to describe the mess Canva AI created...but it's like three versions of what is supposed to be epithelia but none of them are recognizable as actual epithelia.
This is what Canva AI gave me when asked to create a drawing of various types of epithelia.
It's safe to say anatomists will have their jobs for a while longer....

I was never taught that cells "rounded up" before division. Not in HS, not college, not grad school, & it's not in any of my current textbooks.
I have some big feels over this...🤣 am I mad I wasn't taught the prevailing theory or happy I don't have to learn something new? IDK!

Assistant Professor I pointing out features of the skull.
Just got a little upgrade to my title, from Master Instructor to Assistant Professor I.
Look out "tenure" I'm coming for ya....also in Florida so not really but it's fun to imagine.

An anatomist, a skeleton, and a skull in the lab.
Won a little teaching award (nominated by students which makes it really meaningful to me) at my college and they do a photoshoot to celebrate. Kind of fun! A little light in rather dark times for #HigherEd.

I oversaw twelve 12 lead EKGs today. Some days the A&P lab is busier than the ER!
Good news: all appeared normal.
Bad news: I'm not convinced students can palpate ribs and intercostal spaces.
Any other anatomists teach EKG? I've got questions.

An award for faculty of the month.
My students voted me faculty of the month for February.
Recognition from students is extra special to me.

And no, it does not come with a reserved parking spot. 😆

Music Not Allowed in the Anatomy Lab: 1. Nickelback. 2. Staind 3. Borgore 4. Bro-Country Music 5. Coldplay 6. Smashmouth 7. Incubus 8. No overly vulgar language or subject matter (unless the Dean is confirmed to be off campus) 9. Nickelback 10. Uptown Funk (limited to one play per semester) 11. Maroon 5 12. Blink-182 13. Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley (limited to one Rick Roll per semester) 14. Kanye/Ye/Yeezus 15. Creed 16. The Friends theme song 17. Any remix of "Who Let the Dogs Out?"
Students can play music in the lab, but the course director reserves the right to get judgy. Them's the rules. #ITeachAnatomy #AnatomyEducation
I may or may not have forgotten to put the inside cover on the hematocrit centrifuge. Hypothetically speaking this leads to many pieces of capillary tubes inside this weird chute at the back of the centrifuge that becomes similar to a game of Operation to get them out.

Excited to share our new Human Anatomy BSc starting in 2025 🫀

As an anatomist anything about the Vagus nerve interests me and there are some tidbits in this article.
BUT, it's the comments that are 🔥.

Let's do an uplift to start the semester. Share your favorite student comment from your fall evals!
Mine:
"Everyday she came in excited to teach us which in return made me excited to learn."

Mug with EKGs and identifications.
When your work bestie gets you the perfect mug.
Do I definitely bring it and sip from it as I walk around during cardiovascular unit exam??

Sentence about muscles generated by google AI in response to query about sore calf muscles and ankles.
Soooooooo google AI gave me this little delight and I'm just curious how fellow anatomists are going to react.
And go. (See thread to really rile you up)

And yes I use Stedman’s Medical Dictionary to elevate my monitor. Good for something!
#ITeachAnatomy and #AnatomyEdu might work a bit better for you. Also I have a whole list of anatomists. Surely it can be shared somehow...hmmmm.
When I'm crying and absolutely exhausted next semester someone kindly remind me that I agreed to teach 19.5 credits.
My future self is already pretty annoyed with my current self.

Potentially unpopular opinion: I despise the term "module." Give me "unit" any day. For me, module ranks right up there with how some people feel about the word "moist." Ugh.

What if I took this and turned it into a semester long #AnatomyEdu study calendar for lab? Like memorize the landmarks of the humerus. Identify agonist-antagonist muscle pairs. Name layers of epidermis. Etc. #ITeachAnatomy 🍎
For an AA A&P 1 lab on skin I added in a little bit about skin cancer (writing new lab activities). Course is mostly for nurses so try to make clinical connections/keep it interesting. Anyone ever use these models? They seem pretty cool and we're in FL so skin cancer! #ITeachAnatomy #AnatomyEdu
