Imperial Moth Caterpillar
Found this beauty a few years back in early October.
I was determined to find a wolly bully caterpillar to determine the winter weather , and this beauty appeared.

A closeup of a watercolor of a moth, showing the body and part of several of the wings. The moth has many small brown lines to show his fuzz
A line drawing of an imperial moth.
Imperial moth I painted last week, also from a tutorial in Watercolor in Nature by Rosalie Haizlett. I enjoyed this buddy’s gentle asymmetry and fuzzy texture. #watercolor #watercolorinnature #moth #imperialmoth

On grassy ground we see a well-worn, beat up, near death Imperial Moth. My 1st time ever seeing one in person. They are known for their showy wings, often with yellow and brown markings, and a wingspan that can exceed 6 inches. Females tend to be larger than males, with wings typically speckled with red-brown spots and a red-brown line across all four wings. It is rare to see one as they are nocturnal and their adult lifespan is extremely short. (I moved it to a shady spot.)
A rare and special sighting today: a large Imperial Moth, well-worn but still magnificent, at the very end of its adult life. These incredible moths are so seldom seen, and I feel immense gratitude for this fleeting glimpse and wanted to share.

Was very lucky at work today, and got to see an Imperial Moth. It seemed to be close to their last hours, so since they can't eat at this stage, I took it to the shadiest spot near my building. I've seen Luna's and Rosy's, but this was my first seeing an Imperial!
