Grant: It's hard to say. Interlibrary loan usually takes several months. Grant: And if the library decides to purchase it, that will take at least four months.

Patron: So when I asked if you could get it for me, you meant, "No." Grant: No, when you asked, "Can you get it for me?" you meant, "Can you get it for me tomorrow?"

Technology Column Automating borrowing eBooks through interlibrary loan Brynne Norton Libraries, University of Maryland, College Park, MD The desire to obtain eBooks through interlibrary loan is increasing as evidenced by the continually growing number of requests for them. It is extremely challenging to identify which libraries can loan eBooks and which eBooks can be loaned. The University of Maryland Libraries took a data-driven approach to identifying eBook lenders. Data was combined with the automation functions of OCLC® WorldShare’s Automated Request Manager and version 9.2.4 of ILLiad®’s connection manager. The result was a workflow which is a semi-automated process with the goal of increasing successful borrowing of eBooks and reducing the number of unfillable requests.

As eBook #interlibraryloan requests are up, it is hard to identify #eBook lending #libraries and loanable eBooks.
The University of Maryland Libraries took a data-driven approach to identifying eBook lenders to increase eBook borrowing / reduce unfillable requests.
