Image shows book covers: Today I went in to pick up the first two books, “quickly, while they still have horses“ by Belfast writer Jan Carson and “wills and estate planning” from indigenous services Canada. Since I am almost finished the novel I am currently reading, and that Carson book is short stories, I decided to pick up a couple of novels from my “for later“ shelf. This yielded “silver in the wood” by Emily Tesh, “the Empress of salt and Fortune” by Nghi Vo, and “the Wren, the Wren” by Anne Enright.

Oh, how I love libraries! And I especially love having a “for later“ file in my library account so that any time I hear of a book I’d like to read I can pop it in there, if the library owns it, and then when I’m in the mood I can ask for it. Not a bad haul at all!(See Alt.)

Closeup of a floofy, generously petaled, deep pink peony (I think) I found outside of our local public library. Looks like a thick pom-pom. It was a sad day here, though. The library was unexpectedly closed because a local funding “shortfall” means layoffs and a drastic cut in open hours and summer youth programs. Going to keep fighting for my library. The unexpected and early-blooming peony was a bright spot in the day.
